Initial Registration (Moving Into Dakota County)

• You must register with the Dakota County Sheriff’s Office within 3 working days of:
  • Moving into Dakota County
  • Establishing a temporary or permanent residence
  • Becoming employed or attending school in the county

Updating Your Information

You must report changes within 3 working days if you:

• Change your address or residence
• Change your employment
• Enroll in or change school attendance
• Plan to be away from your residence for an extended period (as required by law)

Ongoing Verification Requirements

Depending on your classification, you may be required to verify your information:

• Annually
• Every 6 months
• Every 3 months

The frequency is determined by Nebraska law based on your registration level.

Temporary Presence in the County

If you are visiting Dakota County for more than a limited period (as defined by Nebraska law), you may be required to register even if your permanent residence is elsewhere.
