Sex Offender Check In
The State of Nebraska requires individuals convicted of certain sex offenses to register under the Nebraska Sex Offender Registration Act. If you are required to register and enter Dakota County, you must comply with the following requirements.
Initial Registration (Moving Into Dakota County)
- You must register with the Dakota County Sheriff’s Office within 3 working days of:
- Moving into Dakota County
- Establishing a temporary or permanent residence
- Becoming employed or attending school in the county
Updating Your Information
You must report changes within 3 working days if you:
- Change your address or residence
- Change your employment
- Enroll in or change school attendance
- Plan to be away from your residence for an extended period (as required by law)
Ongoing Verification Requirements
Depending on your classification, you may be required to verify your information:
- Annually
- Every 6 months
- Every 3 months
The frequency is determined by Nebraska law based on your registration level.
Temporary Presence in the County
If you are visiting Dakota County for more than a limited period (as defined by Nebraska law), you may be required to register even if your permanent residence is elsewhere.
