Dakota County Deputies Participate in Statewide Enforcement Campaign
The Dakota County Sheriff’s Office is joining law enforcement agencies across the state in an important effort to keep Nebraska roads safe.
From April 9 through April 13, 2026, deputies will participate in the “Put the Phone Away or Pay” Enforcement Mobilization, made possible through a grant from the Nebraska Office of Highway Safety.

A Coordinated Effort to Stop Distracted Driving
During this enforcement period, residents may notice an increased presence of law enforcement officers throughout Dakota County and surrounding areas. Agencies will be working together to identify and stop distracted driving behaviors—particularly the use of mobile devices while behind the wheel.
This mobilization reflects a shared commitment across the law enforcement community to protect lives and prevent avoidable accidents. All enforcement efforts will be conducted in a fair, equitable, and professional manner.
Why This Campaign Matters
Distracted driving is not just dangerous—it’s illegal. Even a moment of inattention can lead to serious consequences, including:
- Property damage
- Personal injury
- Loss of life
By raising awareness and increasing enforcement, this campaign aims to reduce these risks and encourage safer driving habits across our community.
A Shared Responsibility
At the Dakota County Sheriff’s Office, the safety of our residents is always the top priority. Campaigns like “Put the Phone Away or Pay” are about more than enforcement—they’re about education, awareness, and partnership.
We ask all drivers to join us in this effort:
- Put your phone away while driving
- Stay focused on the road
- Help protect yourself and others
Together, we can make Dakota County’s roads safer for everyone.
